Celebrating the Year of the Rabbit
Technology is revolutionizing both food and non-food shopping by driving more transactions online, making traditional large store formats less of the economic powerhouses they once were. As a result, hypermarkets must either become significantly more productive or operate at a lower cost. To address these challenges, multi-format retailers like Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Carrefour, Albert Heijn, Coles, and Géant are experimenting with new store design concepts. These brands are exploring various format planning strategies to evolve their hypermarket and supermarket models, optimize economics, improve customer offerings, and expand into new markets.
Large, clearly labelled department signs are used for in-store navigation, helping customers easily locate the products they need. At service counters, knowledgeable staff provide personalized advice for those purchasing fresh products from the deli, butcher, bakery, and seafood counters.
For the Tesco Superstore in Welshpool, our design principles aimed to create a more intuitive, easy-to-navigate customer journey. We revitalized previously underutilized areas by creating destination “hero” zones, such as the Bakery, Wine Shop, and Quick Shop/Snack Shop, all designed to enhance the fresh food experience and build trust with customers. These zones also engage shoppers on sustainability and recycling efforts while incorporating thoughtful considerations like accessible parking for disabled individuals, parents, and children.
In summary, our design concept for Tesco Supermarket provides customers with a balanced mix of convenience, value, and quality, ensuring that everyday shopping is efficient, affordable, and enjoyable, while also promoting loyalty and trust.
